Why you should avoid puppy importers

Thursday, February 18, 2010 posted by admin

The first question you have to ask is what is a “puppy importer”? A puppy broker is someone who, rather than breed dogs themselves, purchases them in bulk lots from over seas puppy mills. There is NO DIFFERENCE between this and purchasing any other kind of puppy mill bred dog, except for the fact that import brokered puppies will have suffered through a twelve or more hour flight to arrive at their warehouse location.

Whats an easy way to spot an importer, simple look for these signs
- Puppy availability, importers will almost always have puppies available for sale. They usually have contacts that can get them puppies in a hurry.

- Where is the Dam and Sire? 99% of the time importers don’t even own a dog of the breed they are selling. If you do find a puppy you like, simply ask for pics of the dam or sire. You also ask to have to send you pics verifying they own the either the dam or sire. If neither is available, this should raise some questions about the breeder or better known as the importer.

- Champion Bloodlines, most importers will say their puppy will have the best bloodlines of all time. If your really interested simply ask for a copy of the pedigree or some of the names such as the first two generations of the dog.

- Complaints, Complaints and Complaints.  If you suspect there is any warning signs from a potential importer, simply google or yahoo the importers name and/or website.  There is websites that will post complaints from people who were ripped off by importers.

- Common Sense, if for any reason you feel rushed “this is our last puppy and a lot of people have asking for it”, take your time and do your research.  There are plenty of responsible breeders in north America that are willing to sell a professionally raised bulldog.

Here some websites I highly recommend you read.

Good afternoon, this was a really quality blog. I’d like to write like this also – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I Am lazy and never seem to get something done.

    Hi,
I found your website from an ad in the Arizona Republic classified. You have a very good website set up. Nice Job! There are other reasons for importing that are not bad reasons. If you look back on most pedigrees you will see an import from someplace else.To import new bloodlines and prevent line or in-breeding are two reasons.
